The modern tradition of artistic fish trophies was started in the late 1800's.
During that time, fishing for sport became extremely popular. As interest in
fishing grew, the practice of preserving a large or important game fish became
fashionable. Plaster castings and taxidermy were never very reliable or widely
accepted. Looking for something permanent and aesthetically pleasing, artists
turned to wood and thus began the tradition of life-size fish carvings.

Today, traditional carvers have been joined by a group of artists who have
raised the craft of fish carving to a new level. Whether you are looking for a
wood sculpture of your favorite game fish or you’re a collector of fish art or
you’re simply searching for a gift for that fisherman you will appreciate the
detail in Jim’s art.
